The Waurn Ponds Duplication is a major rail infrastructure upgrade on one of Victoria’s busiest regional transport corridors, delivering enhanced capacity, accessibility and community connectivity between South Geelong and Waurn Ponds. The project involved duplication of approximately 8 km of track between South Geelong and Waurn Ponds, removal of two level crossings, and significant station upgrades at both South Geelong and Marshall, enabling more frequent and reliable rail services for passengers across the region.
HL Landscapes contributed strategic landscape design and integration services as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering this transformative project. Our work focused on creating engaging public spaces and seamless active-travel connections that support the broader transport infrastructure improvements. Key landscape outcomes included new shared user paths, integrated green spaces, climate-resilient planting and coordinated design outcomes that enhance wayfinding and accessibility for all users.
By integrating robust landscape architecture with urban design and transport infrastructure planning, the Waurn Ponds Duplication project not only improves rail service reliability and capacity, but also strengthens social connectivity and contributes to healthier, more sustainable communities in the Geelong region.
