South Gippsland Highway, VIC

Client: CPB

Location: Between Koonwarra & Meeniyan, VIC

Year: 2022

We are so happy to have been involved with the South Gippsland Highway project! The project was initiated late 2019

The project was funded by the Victorian and Australian governments, it upgraded the highway between Koonwarra and Meeniyan in regional Victoria, and was completed end of this year, with some maintenance work remaining.

The upgrade involved the realignment of the highway to improve driver safety and provide more reliable journeys. Some of the other updates included of:

  • Build a new section of highway between Old Koonwarra-Meeniyan Road and Minns Road to reduce the length of highway from 3.4km to 2.3km
  • Remove 9 sharp corners
  • Build 2 new bridges over the Tarwin River
  • Build an underpass east of the new Caithness Road intersection for the Great Southern Rail Trail
  • Realign the Great Southern Rail Trail under the new river bridge at Minns Road
  • Close off access to the old section of highway to through traffic east of Caithness Road while retaining access for local residents
  • Keep access to Caithness Road by a new intersection and upgrades to the existing intersection at Minns Road
  • Install safety barriers.

We are happy to have delivered such an important piece of infrastructure that will help make the roads safer.

HL Landscapes acknowledge the Bunurong people, the Kulin Nation and the GunaiKurnai people as the traditional and continuing custodians of the lands on which the South Gippsland Highway Upgrade was delivered.
